SF-RTK is a satellite delivered signal from John Deere with an annual subscription of $1,500 and is available to any 7000 receiver from the factory - there is no "ready" activation for 7000's. All 7000's are capable of SF1 or SF-RTK from the factory.

The RTK Permanent License (formerly called activation) is a one-time license, however it requires a source of RTK corrections - either from RTK Radio 450 or RTK Radio 900 - or a RTCM3/CMR internet connected base station from a CloudBase Modem. RTK Permanent is also required for external modems such as Digifarm

Frequently Asked Questions about the John Deere StarFire™ 7000 Universal GPS Receiver

Q: How does the the StarFire™ 7000 Universal GPS Receiver compare to the StarFire™ 7500 Universal GPS Receiver?
A: The model 7500 was introduced in 2024 as John Deere was able to better source computer chips - it has fewer computer components inside. Part of the reason the model number was changed is the software required for updates is different. Performance in the field is the same with two exceptions - the 7500 is required to run mRTK aka Mobile RTK with Deere's signal (this was announced Jan 2025 and only affects the Deere/Leica network that requires a $1,250/yr subscription in their coverage area - this does NOT affect the CloudBase 4G RTK NTRIP Modems. Previous model 3000 and 6000 receivers required a $1,250 per year subscription to be capable of taking in industry standard RTCM3 RTK corrections - 7000's and 7500's include the mRTK protocol with the RTK Permanent License. The 7500 is also said to be required to run autonomously with no operator in the cab.

Q: What are the advantages of the StarFire™ 7000 GPS Receiver over the previous model StarFire™ 6000 and StarFire™ 3000 ?
A: The 7000 nearly doubles the available satellites by adding the Europe's Galileo and China's BeiDou satellites - this greatly improves performance in shaded areas such as near treelines. The 7000 also improves the time it takes to build accuracy with SF1 and SF-RTK vs SF3 on the 6000 receiver and SF2 on the 3000 receiver. An internal choke plate has been added to all 7000's and 7500's to improve performance as well - a choke ring was only previously on Integrated StarFire™ 6000 GPS Receivers in the United States. Deere also promises improved vertical accuracy with the 7000 for nearby base stations running radio RTK. It also offers improved RTK-X (RTK Extend) if a base station or cellular RTK source should do down or be out of range.
