The G5 Plus Essentials displays on this listing webpage are part of the John Deere Precision Ag Essentials package and REQUIRE AN ANNUAL SUBSCRIPTION. As of March 7 2024, the lowest level annual subscription is $2,000 per year and includes AutoTrac, Section Control and RowSense. Additional licenses (formerly called activations) such as AutoPath™, Machine Sync, etc. are an additional annual fee.

Q: How can I tell an essentials display from a display with permanent activations?
A: An important question because there are many folks taking advantage of others lack of knowledge and selling these essentials displays for unreasonable prices - An essentials display is supposed to have a separate sticker located on the back of the display next to the main serial number. This sticker is to be installed by the selling dealership before delivery, however it could be removed or never installed in the first place. The only way to know for certain is to power on the display go to Menu - System tab - Software Manager and make certain the licenses / features for AutoTrac and Section Control do not have end dates. All G5 Plus displays with permanent activations come with permanent AutoTrac and Section Control from the factory.

Q: What happens if I don't pay the annual subscription fee after the initial 1 year period runs out?
A: The display retains a BASICS license only - which means the display just becomes a monitor. It can still display implements and even paint coverage, but no AutoTrac, Section control or other functionality

Q: Can I buy permanent activations for a an essentials display?
A: No, not at this time at least. I'm not aware of any plans to offer permanent activations on an essentials display, however the pricing model of what was originally subscription based AutoTrac on the 4640 display did change a year after product launch so there is potential precedent.

Q: Can an essentials display be used as an extended monitor?
A: Not in a normal capacity. The display becomes a monitor as mentioned in above q&a - multiple display settings will have to be modified and it will not be as convenient or functional as a true extended monitor
